A triumph of engineering and optical design. The FinePix X10 boasts a 4× optical zoom equivalent to a 28 - 112mm f/2-2.8 lens on a DSLR camera. Not only does it deliver exceptional optical performance but its compact design, which collapses in the X10’s body, makes the camera easy to take everywhere with you. A single twist of the lens zoom ring and your X10 is powered up and ready to shoot.
The FinePix X10’s lens uses only glass of the very best optical quality to give you the performance you’d expect of a premium photographic tool. 11 optical elements are arranged in nine groups and make use of aspheric lenses as well as extra low dispersion (ED) and high-refractive index glass.
Professional performance in a compact body, right through the zoom range and even at wide aperture settings.
 
2/3-inch EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR processor
A high-resolution 2/3-inch sensor ensures that every detail resolved by the X10’s revolutionary lens is captured in a 12-megapixel image file – perfect for large prints or cropping in post production. The use of EXR CMOS technology boosts performance in low-light and high-contrast situations, as well as delivering blistering speed.
Individual pixels in an EXR CMOS chip are arranged in a different pattern to those in conventional digital cameras. This lets the FinePix X10 switch between sensor modes according to conditions:
  • In good conditions all 12 million pixels are used to capture every drop of detail in a scene
  • In low light, sensitivity is boosted by combining pairs of neighbouring pixels to form six-million larger photosites
  • In high-contrast conditions the X10 widens dynamic range by using half of the pixels to capture highlight detail and the other half to capture shadow detail
Working in partnership with the EXR CMOS sensor, an EXR image processor powers all of the major functions of the FinePix X10, including turning raw sensor data into JPEG or Raw files.
Bringing a new level of performance to FinePix cameras, the EXR processor uses two central processing units (CPUs) and an EXR core processor for extra power. A reconfigurable processor adapts dynamically while performing complex corrections. A dedicated vector-graphics accelerator handles menu operations and provides a rich graphical user interface (GUI).
 
Optical image stabilisation for shake-free pictures
A newly developed optical image stabilisation (OIS) system detects camera movement and compensates for it by shifting a group of five lens elements in response. The result is sharp, clear pictures even in low light when shutter speeds are often long.
The FinePix X10’s OIS system overcomes problems surrounding other image stabilisation technologies, such as light fall-off towards the edges of the frame and a drop in optical resolution.

A high-quality optical viewfinder that is a pleasure to use. Compose with brightness and clarity and see every detail from corner to corner. A Dach prism ensures the finder image is as bright as possible while the camera’s design stays compact.

RAW shooting functions
Choose between shooting JPEG files for convenience and RAW files for the ultimate in picture quality. Or why not capture both at the same time for the best of both worlds?
RAW files contain ever piece of digital information captured by the sensor. In post production this can be used to set white balance, sharpening, etc after the image has been shot, and can give a step up in image quality in large prints.
As well as processing RAW files from the FinePix X10 on your home PC or Mac, you can also convert them to JPEG files in camera. The X10’s built-in RAW converter allows you to adjust settings like white balance, dynamic range and film simulation after the event – great if there is only one chance at the shot, but you aren’t sure which of the cameras options to select.
 
Clear full-HD video, even in low lighting
Much of what makes the FinePix X10 an amazing camera for still pictures also comes into play when capturing video. The camera’s high ISO sensitivity capabilities help tackle low light, while the f/2-2.8 maximum aperture helps isolate subjects against a blurred background. Even film simulation modes are available, letting you add a specific look and feel to your movies.
