Dank des Exmor-R-CMOS-Sensors mit rückwärtiger Beleuchtung bietet der Camcorder eine gute Empfindlichkeit. Mit 8 Millionen Pixeln hält der 1/2,33"-Sensor 4K-Bilder mit 50 oder 60 Bildern/s fest. Das integrierte leistungsstarke G-Objektiv bietet maximale Aufnahmeflexibilität, einschließlich eines Weitwinkels von 29,5 mm (äquivalent zu 35-mm-Film) und eines leistungsstarken optischen 20-fach-Zooms.

XAVC-Aufnahmeformat mit 4K 50/60 Bildern pro Sekunde, 4:2:2 10-Bit bei 500/600 Mbit/s, HD bei bis zu 223 Mbit/s

Die PXW-Z100 verwendet das XAVC-Aufnahmeformat von Sony, das zuerst in der CineAlta-4K-Kamera PMW-F55 eingesetzt wurde. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264-Kompression wird für HD- (1.920 x 1.080), QFHD- (3.840 x 2.160) und 4K-Inhalte (4.096 x 2.160) verwendet. Die Bildabtastung liegt bei 4:2:2 10-Bit mit einem Intra-Frame-System, welches jeden Frame individuell mit einer maximalen Bitrate von 500 Mbit/s oder 600 Mbit/s bei Aufnahmen mit 50 oder 60 Bildern/s in 4K und 223 Mbit/s bei Aufnahmen mit 50 oder 60 Bildern/s in HD komprimiert. Das XAVC-Format eignet sich hervorragend, wenn Sie einen qualitativ hochwertigen, sicheren und problemfreien Workflow implementieren möchten. Ein kostenfreies Firmware-Update ist für Mitte 2014 geplant, um Unterstützung für den Long GOP-Modus für eine verlängerte 4K-Aufnahmezeit sowie für AVCHD-Aufnahmen zu bieten.

Aufzeichnung auf XQD-Speicherkarte

Die XQD-Speicherkarte ist ein neuer Standard für Festspeicherkarten, der vor Kurzem von mehreren branchenführenden Unternehmen definiert wurde. XQD verwendet die ultraschnelle PCI Express-Schnittstelle und den einzigartigen Kameraprozessor von Sony, um stabile Videoaufnahmen bei 500 Mbit/s oder 600 Mbit/s zu ermöglichen. Die PXW-Z100 verfügt über zwei XQD-Speicherkarten-Steckplätze. Mehrere Karten können auf verschiedene Weise eingesetzt werden, z. B. für durchgängige Aufnahmen. Wenn die erste Karte voll ist, wird die Aufzeichnung auf der nächsten Karte ohne Unterbrechung fortgesetzt.

HDMI-Schnittstelle für 4K-Ausgabe und 3G-HD-SDI-Schnittstelle für HD-Ausgabe

Die HDMI-Schnittstelle der PXW-Z100 kann 4K als Signal mit 50/60 Bildern/s ausgeben. Wenn die PXW-Z100 mit einem 4K-kompatiblen BRAVIA-Fernseher von Sony verbunden ist, können die 4K-Aufnahmen in 4K-Qualität mit 50/60 Bildern/s wiedergegeben werden. Ein zukünftiges Firmware-Upgrade wird geplant, um Kompatibilität mit dem neuen HDMI-2.0-Standard zu bieten sowie die 4K-Ausgabe mit 50/60 Bildern/s auf eine breitere Auswahl von Geräten zu ermöglichen. Weitere Funktionen umfassen eine 3G-HD-SDI-Schnittstelle, welche die Ausgabe an SDI von bis zu 60 Bildern/s unterstützt. Zudem unterstützt sie die HD-Ausgabe während 4K-Aufnahmen.

Die Funktion "Paint" der PXW-Z100 ermöglicht die Anpassung mehrerer Bildparameter, einschließlich Gammakurve, Schwarzpegel, Skin Detail und Farbe. Die Auswahl von Einstellungen ist mit der der PMW-F55 vergleichbar. Zusammen mit anderen Einstellungsoptionen können Parametereinstellungen als Kameraprofil auf eine Speicherkarte aufgezeichnet werden. Das aufgezeichnete Kameraprofil kann dann verwendet werden, um dieselben Parameter in einer anderen PXW-Z100 einzustellen, damit die Übereinstimmung von Qualität und Bildfarbtönen bei Anwendungen mit mehreren Kameras sichergestellt werden kann.

Fernbedienung mit Wi-Fi

Fokus, Zoom, Aperture-Einstellungen und "record start/stop" (Aufnahme starten/beenden) können durch Verwendung der Browserfunktion eines Smartphones oder Tablets ferngesteuert werden.
