Chessmen

Famous sculptors have always been inspired by the Olympic Games. The aim was to emphasize the beauty of the athlete's forms and the greatness of the revered gods.  The figure of the king is a copy of the famous Poseidon statue of Mela (2nd century BC) and the queen is of the glorious "Athene Promaxos" (450 BC Acropolis Museum). A bronze statue of the god Hermes inspired the figure of the bishop, and the knight is part of the marble facade of the Parthenon. The castle is a reproduction of the magnificent attic of the young Aristion, who died in battle. Finally, Lombard is a bronze statue of a discus athlete from the classical period (500 BC).
